South of the Border

As I wrote about previously, in April, I had the opportunity to take a trip to San Felipe, Mexico, with ANJ Motorsports. We headed south of the border for the CODE San Felipe 200 off-road race. I showed up for the trip with a backpack full of cameras and the hope of being able to piece together about five minutes of footage documenting the adventure. With the help of a few others getting some key shots (Phil missed his calling as a Director of Photography) and some shots of the race “borrowed” from the CODE website I had more than enough to put something together. Once it was roughly laid out I was shocked to see it was somewhere around thirty minutes long. I took the knife to it and massacred it into the fourteen minutes and nine seconds you see below.

Enjoy.

Happy Mother's Day Mrs. Patridge

One of the great things about the abundance of terrible reality shows is that we get a glimpse into the lives of some wonderfully trashy people. Audrina Patridge, former star of The Hills, now has her own reality show focusing on her and her family. Audrina’s mother is quite the whitetrash treasure. On the first episode I watched, Audrina took a trip to New York with her mother and sister, upon arriving her mother wanted to start drinking. Both daughters told their mother that it was late and they all needed to be up early, so trying to be responsible they suggested they go to bed. Mom didn’t like this suggestion, mom wanted to party. They told her that it was 10pm New York time and she replied by saying that she was still on California time and therefore, “it was only like 5 o’clock”; apparently they didn’t teach time zones in the trailer she grew up in. After watching another episode it is clear that she is a close rival of Dina Lohan who appears to be pushing her kids down the road to disaster, to their credit they are fighting her every step of the way. Kudos to you Audrina, for turning out as close to normal as can be expected with a mother like yours.

Sponsor Me

I was asked by my friends at ANJ Motorsports to put together a short video to be included in the packages they are sending out to potential sponsors. Below is the short montage video I put together. I hope it helps them get the sponsorship they need to do the BAJA 1000 this year. Good luck guys.

I spent last week in Baja California with ANJ Motorsports for the CODE San Felipe 200 off-road race. Here are a few pictures I took while down there. The video from the trip is coming soon.

Bill Murray was tending bar

Scott told me that a friend of his was at SXSW this year and Bill Murray was tending bar one night. Now Bill Murray seems like an eccentric guy and I was not surprised to hear that he jumped behind the bar and started serving drinks. What I did find fascinating was that, because he is an actor by trade, he can walk into a business and just start working. I bet you Bill Murray could walk into a grocery store and just start bagging groceries and they would love it. If I walked into a grocery store and started bagging groceries they would make me stop immediately, a manager would be called, it would not go well. Even if I genuinely just wanted to be a helpful customer and bag groceries, they would site liability issues, etc., and I would be told to stop. Is it not strange there exists a profession that, if you are good at, allows you to participate in other completely unrelated professions because you feel like it?

Hold on to your asses

After seeing the sun become a spec among specs, seeing the unknown, the edge of human knowledge, there is a sort of come to Jesus moment. Your butt clinches a little and you think, “oh fuck”. As you travel back to earth from the edge of the known, you see how small this rock we are flying on really is. Enjoy the journey to edge the of space.

p.s. I bet that star you paid to name after someone doesn’t seem like such a special gift anymore, does it?

Out of the Wild

I stumbled on to Discovery channel’s Out of The Wild the other day. The show takes 9 cast members, gives them 3 days of basic survival training, a pack with supplies, and then drops them in the middle of the wilderness. They are given a partial map (more map pieces are given at each checkpoint) and have to navigate back to civilization. Each cast member has a button they can push at any point to be “rescued”. During the few minutes I watched, one of the cast members, while having an emotional moment and wanting to quit, said, “ I just wish I was back in Maine right now, I just want to go home”. There is a simple solution to that, go home. You are on a TV show, what are you doing there to begin with, you didn’t somehow become stranded there, you went through a casting process and made the choice to go. I mean what could possibly go wrong with 3 days of basic survivor skill training before being left in the wilderness? If you want to go back to Maine so bad, just go, but don’t cry about it, you’re not going to die, the cameraman filming this ridiculous moment will make sure of it.
